Search for: (required field)
For filters which allow you to select multiple options, the quick-select/clear buttons will let you select everything or clear everything at once.
Some of these filters will appear and disappear depending on whether you selected to search for designers, patterns, or eBooks.
Across the filters, the selections you make are cumulative. For example, if you're searching for patterns, and you select babies in 'Ages' and fingering in 'Yarn weight', you will get a list of fingering weight patterns for babies; you won't see fingering weight patterns that aren't for babies, nor baby patterns that aren't for fingering weight yarn.
Designer-related
This is a case- and accent-insensitive, partial-match text search, e.g. if you type "nee", it will return results like "Needles and Hooks", "Renée Lajeunesse", etc. (For this reason, make sure you don't have a space at the beginning or end of your text input unless you actually mean to search for it.) Wildcard * will work.
(Note: this data was optional; participating designers were not required to self-identify)
Desktop users can use ctrl/command to select multiple options.
If you make no selections, the system will assume you don't want to restrict search results by whether a designer belongs to a marginalized group.
Only designers who participated in interactive events
Product-related
This is a case- and accent-insensitive, partial-match text search, e.g. if you type "flow", it will return results like "Birds have flown", "Flóward", etc. (For this reason, make sure you don't have a space at the beginning or end of your text input unless you actually mean to search for it.) Wildcard * will work.
If you make no selections, the system will assume you don't want to restrict search results by craft (i.e. it will behave as if you've selected all the options).

Desktop users can use ctrl/command to select multiple options in any of the selection boxes for this filter.
If you make no selections, the system will assume you don't want to restrict search results by category.
For each category selected, you will have the option to be more specific and select one or more subcategories for each selected category.
Subcategory selection boxes will appear below as you select categories.
If you make no selections in a subcategory selection box, the system will assume you don't want to restrict search results by a category's subcategory.
If you make no selections, the system will assume you don't want to restrict search results by age.
Adults
Children
Babies
Desktop users can use ctrl/command to select multiple options.
If you make no selections, the system will assume you don't want to restrict search results by yarn weight.
Note: If you want to do a thorough search for anything which may use a particular yarn weight, we recommend choosing that specific yarn weight and also the options "Yarn weight doesn't matter", "Yarn weight not specified", and "Multiple yarn weights". That way, you won't miss anything!
If you leave this input field blank, the system will assume you don't want to restrict search results by yardage.
What can I make with yards
Desktop users can use ctrl/command to select multiple options.
If you make no selections, the system will assume you don't want to restrict search results by design feature.
Don't see a design feature option you want? Contact us - we might be able to include it!
Desktop users can use ctrl/command to select multiple options.

More info
Not sure how to make the search work, or wondering if there are features of the search that you don't know about yet? We've got a video demo on TikTok which takes you through the basics.
We've made quite a few changes to our website search feature in 2024, compared to last year. If you're familiar with our search from 2023, we hope you'll find that the differences make it easier for you to search for the designers, patterns, and eBooks that you're interested in.
Let's take a look at what's different...
Streamlined searching
One of the biggest changes is that we now have a single, unified search interface, instead of having one search for designers and one search for patterns.
To get started, you first select what kind of results you want to see: designers, patterns, or eBooks. And yes, another new thing is that we've separated out patterns from eBooks. You'll also find that patterns and eBooks are listed in separate sections of the designer profile pages.
Once you've selected your search type, you'll have access to a big bunch of search filters.
Tell me about the search filters!
With a few exceptions, all three kinds of searches have the same search filters available - designer name, marginalized groups that a designer belongs to, product name, yarn weight, all that good stuff. There's no more only being able to search designers by designer info, and patterns by pattern info. For example, you can now search for designers based on whether they have any brioche patterns in our database.
The exceptions are things which don't make sense. For example, there's no "discount-eligible" filter when you're searching for designers, because all designers in our event have discount-eligible patterns.
When you open up the filter area, you're not overwhelmed with search input fields and descriptions of them, because each different search filter lives in its own expandable/collapsible accordion, and they all start in the collapsed state. If you want to use a particular search feature, expand its accordion and get going!
Because of the accordions, you don't have to scroll down through as much content to get to the bottom of the filter where the search activation and reset buttons are. Also, the filters are organized into two categories: designer-related, and product-related, to help you find the filters you want faster.
Easier form interaction: a much-requested feature!
Even if you decide to open lots of filters at the same time so that there's tons of content visible on the search page, you still don't have to do a ton of scrolling down to the search button in order to activate your search. If you're in a text input field, multi-select box, or on a checkbox or radio button, you can hit the Enter key, and this will fire up your search right away!
Unfortunately, because of universal keyboard behaviour expectations, this won't work if you're in a dropdown list. However, if you keyboard-tab off of a dropdown, and onto an input field which isn't a dropdown, you can then hit that Enter key to get the search going, without having to scroll all the way down to the search activation button.
What else is new?
- In addition to the random designer highlights we've always had, we now also have random pattern highlights and random eBook highlights. These show up on the initial search page - the type of search you choose will determine what kind of random highlight pops onto the page.
- We've revamped our pattern categories, and added SUB-categories! For example: slippers, socks, and boot toppers (and more!) are subcategories of 'Foot/leg wear'.
- As soon as you select a category, its corresponding subcategories selection box appears. From there, you can either ignore the subcategories box (i.e. you're searching for every type of thing in the selected category), or start making selections from the subcategories box to refine your search. If you select multiple categories at once, you'll see multiple subcategories boxes, which you can choose to use or not use in any combination you like.
- To eliminate confusing overlap between the old 'recipients' filter and the new pattern categorization system, the 'recipients' filter is now an 'ages' filter. This contains adult, child, and baby/toddler options.
- For pattern and eBook searches, you can indicate which specific designers you want to search for, or not search for.
- We have a new inclusivity feature you can search on: instructions coming in multiple languages. Pattern listings will also now show the languages the patterns come in.
- One of our designers this year has machine knitting patterns, so you will also be able to search for that as a craft.
As always, the search will continue to be available for your use even after the event is finished.
We hope you have lots of fun using the search, and that these changes make it easier for you to use the search, and get the results you want!
We're keeping them available!
